answer text
The Security Council most recently held consultations on UNAMID and the situation in Darfur on 15 November. During this session, we urged fellow Council members to closely monitor the impact of UNAMID's reconfiguration, and carefully consider whether the situation on the ground remains conducive to further changes. We are in regular contact with UNAMID and are monitoring the reconfiguration of the Mission closely.

The security situation has evolved in much of Darfur, and therefore we supported the Security Council's decision in June to reconfigure the UN/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). However we recognise that the security situation remains fragile. Therefore, our priority is to ensure that changes made to the Mission are done sensibly, with appropriate review points, and to make sure that a smaller, more flexible UNAMID is still able to fulfil the core components of its mandate.
more like this

answer text
The UK is gravely concerned by Israeli proposals to relocate the Bedouin population from the E1 area. The UN has said that this could constitute forcible transfer.

We have been clear about our concerns with the Israeli authorities and we regularly raise the matter through our Embassy in Tel Aviv. These plans could have a devastating impact on the communities concerned and will likely open the way for further settlement expansion – endangering the viability of the two-state solution.

We follow developments closely. Staff from our Consulate General in Jerusalem visited Jabal al-Baba on 9 November, and both Ein al-Hilweh and Umm al-Jammal on 22 November. We also provide legal aid to the community at Jabal al-Baba through our support to the Norwegian Refugee Council.
more like this

answer text
The UK is encouraging both the Government and opposition to respond constructively to the IGAD-led initiative to revitalise the peace process, negotiate a ceasefire and improve humanitarian access. The immediate priority for the initiative must be a negotiated ceasefire amongst a broad range of armed actors. The UK Special Representative to South Sudan, alongside his Troika counterparts, has recently held discussions with key senior officials and ministers of IGAD member states to encourage positive engagement with the process. The Minister of State has also spoken to his counterparts in both Uganda and Kenya to press for a resolution.
more like this

answer text
We welcome the swift and widespread condemnation by the Nigerian Government of calls for Igbo residents to be evicted from parts of Northern Nigeria. We welcome in particular the swift condemnation by the Governors of the Northern states and then Acting President Osinbajo. During my visit to Nigeria in June I discussed community tensions in Nigeria with the Governor of Kaduna. We echo President Buhari's recent call for calm and reconciliation between the many ethnic groups and communities that make up and contribute to the strength and diversity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I welcome the fact that the Northern Nigerian Youth Groups have subsequently rescinded their call for Igbos to be evicted. We continue to monitor the situation closely, and will work with the Nigerian Government to help tackle threats to Nigeria's security and address the underlying causes of instability.
more like this

answer text
The treatment of the Baha'i community in Iran is of particular concern. During the recent Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran at the UN, the UK raised the treatment of religious minorities, including the Baha'i. The British Government supports the UN Special Rapporteur's assessment that discrimination against the Baha'i community in Iran is aggravated by a lack of constitutional recognition and the absence of other legal protections for adherents of this faith. I recently met with representatives of the Baha'i community to discuss this.
more like this
