In 2009, the World Bank estimated that more than 60 percent of Sudan's national budget was spent on Security and Defence. On the same day, we released a statement alongside other EU Heads of Mission to make clear our firm opposition to the use of the death penalty under any circumstances, and recalling the principle of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that marriage should be entered into only with the free and full consent of spouses. We raised our concerns with the Government of Sudan on 9 May. We reiterated the UK's and the international community's expectation that unilateral cessations of hostilities must be observed by both sides. While presenting his credentials to the President of Sudan on 14 May, our Ambassador took the opportunity to repeat the importance of observing the unilateral ceasefire. We continue to encourage the Government of Nigeria to work with security agencies in a compliant manner to resolve the ongoing issue and welcome President Buhari's condemnation of these acts of violence. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2018 answer text <p>The British Government, alongside other states, encouraged the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to look into allegations of chemical weapons use made by Amnesty International in October 2016. The OPCW asked the Government of Sudan, as a State Party to the Chemical Weapons Convention, to share all relevant information and offered its assistance in any investigation. The Sudanese authorities reported to the OPCW that their national investigations came across no evidence of chemical weapon use in the Jebel Marra region. We are also supporting the United Nations Children's Fund to provide clean water and rehabilitate sanitation facilities to stop the spread of disease.
