Following media reports about the possible release of Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, the UK sought urgent clarification from the Indonesian authorities. We understand that the prospect of early release has receded. On Twitter I publicly described it as &quot;a despicable attack on Afghanistan's historic Sikh and Hindu community&quot;.</p><p> </p><p>Security remains an ongoing challenge in Afghanistan and violence is particularly high in eastern Afghanistan. The Daesh affiliate, IS Khorasan Province (ISKP), has claimed responsibility for the overwhelming majority of attacks in Jalalabad this year. The Afghan National Defence and Security Forces are committed to tackling this threat. He recently asked the Bishop of Truro to conduct an independent review of the persecution of Christians around the world to help inform this important area of our work and ensure it is targeted and effective. The Government works with a large number of NGOs, including Open Doors, to help promote and protect freedom of religion or belief. We have emphasised the need for a credible timeline and operational plan to deliver presidential elections in 2019. We are contributing up to £16.5 million to the presidential, district and provincial elections. We work alongside other donor countries, the UN and Afghanistan's Election Management Bodies to ensure that lessons are learned following 2018's parliamentary elections, and that relevant reforms are rapidly implemented.</p><p>We view elections as vital for Afghanistan's long-term stability and democratic future. In our discussions with the Afghan Government, and with other relevant individuals, groups and institutions in Afghanistan, we continue to emphasise the need to make rapid decisions on key operational issues and meet agreed timelines. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/11/2018 answer text <p>We regularly raise issues concerning freedom of religion with the Government of Afghanistan, underlining, the need to protect the rights of all ethnic and religious groups in line with the constitution of Afghanistan.</p><p>We are concerned about the high number of civilian casualties and displaced persons that have resulted from the recent violence in Ghazni and Uruzgan. We urge that all parties to the conflict respect International Humanitarian Law, protecting the civilian population and facilitating the provision of assistance by neutral and impartial humanitarian agencies. We assess that the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) are now working to stabilise the security situation in both provinces. We understand that those who have been displaced are receiving assistance from local authorities.</p><p>We continue to monitor the impact that fighting may have had on tensions between different communities.
