answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/10/2014 answer text <p>The Government recognises that the multi-billion pound illegal wildlife trade not only has a devastating effect on affected species.</p><p>The Government hosted a major conference of global leaders in London in February 2014 to help eradicate the illegal wildlife trade and better protect affected species from the threat of extinction. 25 practical commitments to action were agreed in a Declaration by the participating states. One of those commitments was to undertake further assessment of the markets and dynamics of the illegal wildlife trade and progress made to combat it, including exploring links to terrorism.</p><p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office commissioned a review of the Global Impacts of the Illegal Wildlife Trade: The Costs of Crime, Insecurity and Institutional Erosion, which was published in February this year. This Review found that armed non-state actors are involved with poaching. This figure forms a part of the £230 million committed by the UK Government to tackle Ebola, which includes support for 700 Ebola treatment beds in Sierra Leone, tripling current capacity. A significant area of FCO expenditure has been providing additional resilience to our Missions in the affected countries. This has helped ensure the UK is at the forefront of the international effort to tackle Ebola. A further element of spend was the UK hosted London Conference on Defeating Ebola on 2 October. The conference brought together more than 20 governments, a dozen charities and NGOs, the UN, World Bank, health experts and the private sector to pledge funds, equipment and health workers. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/12/2014 answer text <p>We monitor the stability of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia closely, drawing on reporting from our Embassies in the region. The Ebola outbreak has not led to widespread public order problems in any of the three countries, though isolated incidents have occurred. Their Governments have proved largely resilient, despite the enormous pressures caused by the crisis. Britain’s support to the Ebola response and our long-standing political, development, and security partnership with the Sierra Leonean Government has been a major contributory factor in that country. The economies of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have all suffered from Ebola whilst falls in commodity prices have also affected growth. The latest World Bank reports suggest that growth may be flat or negative and will stretch Government finances. Agriculture, tourism and services sectors have been worst hit. We are working with partners in all of the affected countries to maintain adequate health facilities and medical evacuation provision for staff. We keep this under constant review. In some cases we have removed dependents from Posts because of the impact of ebola on local health infrastructure. There are checks and information for all passengers leaving affected countries. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/10/2014 answer text <p>The UK held the presidency of the UN Security Council in August, and focused on a theme of conflict prevention, coinciding with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. The main event was an open debate on conflict prevention at which the Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2171. This emphasised the role of the UN in preventing conflict, placed conflict prevention firmly on the Security Council’s ongoing agenda, and acknowledged human rights violations as early indicators of conflict. The Council also undertook a trip to Europe – where they visited a First World War battlefield and the International Court of Justice at the Hague – and Somalia and South Sudan. This visit was welcomed by all Council members. The principal responsibility of the presidency is to ensure regular Security Council business is efficiently discharged. To this end, there were debates and discussions on a range of issues, including Libya, ISIL, Yemen, the UN’s mission in Darfur (UNAMID), and Ukraine. Overall, the UK drafted five resolutions and a Presidential Statement. All were agreed unanimously. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/10/2014 answer text <p>The Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) is focused on ending impunity for crimes of sexual violence committed in conflict and the provision of greater support to the survivors of these crimes. Where caste based sexual violence and so-called punishment rape are used in conflict they fall within the overarching objectives of the Initiative.</p><p>The UK’s National Action Plan (NAP) on implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 reaffirms and strengthens the Government’s ambition to pursue visible change for women and girls affected by conflict. The 2014-2017 NAP promotes the participation of women, from all backgrounds, in decision-making processes related to the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.</p><p>PSVI and the NAP are complemented by wider government activity on tackling violence against women and girls, underpinned by the cross-government action plan, ‘A Call to End Violence against Women and Girls’, which sets out the Government’s programme of domestic and international work in this area.
