answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/08/2017 answer text <p>While we have not raised this issue with the Israeli authorities, the Government gives practical support to Bedouin communities and Palestinians facing demolition or eviction in Area C of the West Bank through our funding to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) legal aid programme.</p><p>The UK's position on demolitions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is clear: they cause unnecessary suffering and call into question Israel’s commitment to a viable two-state solution. In all but the most exceptional of cases they are contrary to International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The Fourth Geneva Convention is clear that the destruction of property in occupied territory is not justified unless rendered absolutely necessary by military operations. We also remain deeply concerned at the detention of Taner Kilic, Amnesty International's Turkey Chair. The Foreign Secretary urged their release in his speech in Sydney on 27 July. As the Minister for Europe and the Americas set out in his recent statement on these arrests, both the Foreign Secretary and the Prime Minister have raised these arrests in recent discussions with Turkish counterparts. He has also raised the matter with the Turkish Ambassador to London.
