The department has validated and quality assured school condition datasets for 2,621 of those schools, which represents less than 12% of schools included in the CDC2 programme.</p><p>The number of schools that we have validated CDC2 data for represents too small a sample to draw conclusions on the condition of school buildings across the school estate in England. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/01/2022 answer text <p>The Department for Education does not hold information on the number of classrooms in regular use in schools and sixth form colleges in either the state or independent sector.</p><p>Investment in the school estate is a priority for the government. £23 billion was invested in the school estate from the financial years 2016-17 to 2020-21 to deliver new school places, rebuild or refurbish buildings in the worst condition and deliver thousands of condition projects across the school estate.</p><p>The department is investing a total of £5.6 billion of capital funding to support the education sector in the 2021-22 financial year, including £1.8 billion to help maintain and improve the condition of school buildings, £300 million in 2021-22 to invest in new high needs places, and £750 million for new school places needed by 2022.</p><p>My right hon. Friend, the Prime Minister, announced a new School Rebuilding Programme last year, which will replace poor condition buildings with modern designs that will be net zero carbon in operation. We have announced the first 100 schools, as part of a commitment to 500 rebuilding projects over the next decade - transforming education for thousands of pupils.</p><p>The 2021 Spending Review recently announced a total of £19.4 billion of capital funding to support the education sector between the financial years 2022-23 and 2024-25. We work closely with BEIS to understand the energy performance of the school estate.</p><p>The next round of the Condition Data Collection (CDC2) programme has started and will collect further information about the sustainability performance of the school estate, including heat pumps. The former Minister for the School System, my noble Friend, Baroness Berridge, met with the hon. member for York Central, as well as representatives from the school, the Diocese of Middlesbrough and York City Council in June to discuss this matter, and a capital adviser from the department visited the school in July to understand the condition need of the school. My noble Friend, the Minister for the School System, will also write to the hon. member for York Central to cover the issues in more detail.</p><p>Overall, the department allocated £1.8 billion in funding in 2021-22 to maintain and improve school condition. Local authorities, large multi academy trusts and large voluntary-aided bodies receive a School Condition Allocation to invest in priorities across the schools for which they are responsible.</p><p>Our aim for this condition funding is to ensure that responsible bodies receive a fair share of the available budget that takes into account their relative investment needs. The funding methodology for 2021-22 has been updated with the latest data from the school Condition Data Collection, which provides a high-level assessment of the relative condition of state funded schools. We expect responsible bodies to use their own detailed condition reports and knowledge to prioritise investment across their schools to address condition issues, including structural issues.</p><p>The Diocese of Leeds and the Diocese of Middlesbrough received a combined School Condition Allocation of £3,112,383 in 2021-22 to invest in improving the condition of their schools.</p><p>All Saints Roman Catholic School also received a Devolved Formula Capital payment of £32,247 in 2021-22 to spend on their capital priorities.</p><p>Over and above condition allocations, the department has also launched a new School Rebuilding Programme with a commitment to 500 projects over the next decade and has already announced the first 100 schools. We are consulting on how we will prioritise future places on the School Rebuilding Programme, and we welcome views from those with an interest in how the condition of the school estate is maintained and funded, including bodies responsible for school buildings. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/01/2021 answer text <p>On 7 January we published further guidance, ‘Restricting attendance during the national lockdown: schools’, which sets out what all schools will need to do during the COVID-19 outbreak from January 2021. This includes the system of controls that schools must continue to adopt to the fullest extent possible to reduce risks in their school and create an inherently safer environment. This can be achieved through keeping groups separate and by maintaining the distance between individuals. Whilst schools are attended by vulnerable children and the children of critical workers only, where possible schools should keep group sizes small. Any additional space available where there are lower numbers of pupils attending should be used wherever possible to maximise the distance between pupils and between staff and other people.</p><p>We do not consider it necessary for schools to make significant adaptations to their site to enable them to operate in this way. Following a risk assessment, some schools may determine that small adaptations to their site are required. This will be at the discretion of individual schools, based on their particular circumstances. As such, schools should use their existing resources for this purpose, where necessary.</p><p>Schools continue to receive their budgets this year, as usual, regardless of any periods of partial or complete closure. School budgets are rising by £2.6 billion in 2020-21, £4.8 billion in 2021-22 and £7.1 billion in 2022-23, compared to the 2019-20 financial year.
