answer text <p>The United States is not negotiating traditional FTAs with any country. On the 8th of June, the Prime Minister and the President announced a first-of-its-kind economic partnership. The Atlantic Declaration and accompanying Action Plan cover the full spectrum of our economic, technological, commercial and trade relations, and will explore ways to expand our bilateral trade, already worth £279 billion per year.</p><p>As part of the Declaration, we announced the immediate launch of negotiations on a Critical Minerals Agreement to ensure UK access to the US market for a strategically important sector of the UK economy and bolster vital supply chains.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Saudi Arabia is an important trading partner for the UK, with total bilateral trade at £18.5 billion in the four quarters to Q1 2023, and as underpinned by our joint Strategic Partnership Council.</p><p> </p><p>To further promote two-way trade and investment, the UK is negotiating a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including Saudi Arabia. An FTA will boost UK exports, create new opportunities and drive greater investment. It is also expected to increase UK-GCC trade by 16% and contribute an additional £600m (compared to 2019 levels) to UK workers’ annual wages in the long run.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Industrial sectors, including the steel sector in Wales, have been able to bid into Government funds worth hundreds of millions of pounds to support energy efficiency and decarbonisation. In February, we announced the British Industry Supercharger – decisive measures to reduce energy costs for energy intensive industries, including steel, in line with those charged across the world’s major economies. We have provided extensive energy costs relief to the steel sector since 2013, including through the Energy Bill Relief Scheme. Steel producers will continue to receive support until 31 March 2024 through the Energy Bills Discount Scheme (EBDS).</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) was notified of this incident by the National Fire Chiefs Council. OPSS are liaising with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and Trading Standards to provide support and to obtain details regarding the product to enable a follow up investigation to take place.</p><p>UK law requires that all consumer products must be safe before being placed on the UK market. Where products are identified that do not meet the UK’s product safety requirements, OPSS works with local Trading Standards to quickly remove them from the market.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has established a safety study to understand the data and evidence of the risks presented by e-bikes and e-scooters. This includes investigating incidents and taking enforcement action when needed, commissioning research, targeting unsafe products at the border and providing public safety information.</p><p> </p><p>A research project on batteries has been contracted with Warwick Manufacturing Group, part of Warwick University and a centre for innovation in science and technology. This will examine the safety of the lithium-ion batteries within Personal Light Electric Vehicles. The research will be published in due course once completed.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The existing legislation and enforcement are sufficiently robust to ensure that workers undertaking work experience or internships should get the minimum wage to which they are legally entitled. HMRC have contacted over 3,200 employers advertising unpaid internships to ensure they are compliant with the law. Where HMRC come to the view that the arrangements constitute “work” under National Minimum Wage regulations, they will require the employer to pay any arrears to the worker, in addition to penalties of up to 200% of the arrears.</p> more like this
