answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/07/2017 answer text <p>Safety officers working with the emergency services currently on site have tested the air within Grenfell Tower for asbestos and have not detected any levels of concern. When work commences to clear the site there will be a system of engineering work that will prevent any asbestos being released from the site and a programme of regular environmental air monitoring conducted to minimise the risk to local residents and contractors. Public Health England is monitoring air quality around the site and to date has not detected any asbestos in the environment. It is a landlord’s responsibility to ensure that people are kept safe. Testing is being undertaken by the Building Research Establishment where Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding is identified. We have alerted owners, landlords and managers of private sector residential blocks to the issue and have made the testing facility available to them.</p><p>Where testing of ACM cladding reveals concerns, the priority in the first instance is to work with the relevant local authority and the fire and rescue service to determine the most appropriate course of action. Where we have results for specific areas, and tenants have been informed of the action to be taken, then further details will be released publicly. Systems that failed the Government’s large scale cladding tests are in use on 165. Cladding systems that passed the tests are in use on eight social housing towers. As each test was completed the Government contacted the owners of all affected buildings to share detailed advice drawn up by the Independent Expert Advisory Panel. We have already announced a new block of social housing in Kensington Row that will provide 68 permanent new homes, and we are urgently working with a number of developers to secure similar properties in the area. The Prime Minister said clearly in her statement on 22 June that families who lost their homes as a result of the Grenfell Tower fire will be guaranteed a new home on the same terms as the one they lost. It is for the building owner to consider whether to remove cladding. They should take expert professional advice on this. We have since been in regular contact with every local authority and housing association in the country to identify all social housing tower blocks above 18 meters that are clad specifically in aluminium composite material (ACM). Based on work to date, we know there are 173 high rise social housing buildings with ACM cladding in England and that 165 of these buildings have cladding systems that present fire hazards.
