answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>The Department has invested an extra £1.3 billion into core schools funding across 2018-19 and 2019-20, which is an increase from the plans set out in the last Spending Review. Core funding for schools and high needs has risen from almost £41 billion in 2017-18 to £42.4 billion this year and will rise further to £43.5 billion in 2019-20. The Department allows head teachers to use their funding in a way they feel achieves the best outcomes for pupils.</p><p> </p><p>From 2013 to March 2019, the Department is providing £5.3 million for pupils and teachers from state-funded secondary schools in England to participate in battlefield tours of the Western Front. This means that they become looked after children and should be safeguarded and have their welfare promoted in the same way as any other looked after child. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/11/2018 answer text <p><br>Children in care are amongst the most vulnerable in our society and they should be admitted to the school that is best able to meet their needs. Since 2007, school admission authorities have been required to give looked after children highest priority in their admission arrangements. In 2012, this priority was further extended to previously looked after children.</p><p> </p><p>The government also wants to ensure that children adopted from care overseas receive equal highest priority for admission into school as those looked after or previously looked after by a local authority in England. That is why we have reformed the funding for children and young people with high needs to make it fairer. High needs funding across England has risen by £1 billion since 2013, and will be over £6 billion next year.</p><p>Previously underfunded local authorities are seeing significant increases to their high needs funding, up to six per cent per head of the 2 to 18 population in 2019 to 2020 compared to what they planned to spend in 2017 to 2018. The provisional allocations for 2019 to 2020 that we announced in July can be found at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/pre-16-schools-funding-guidance-for-2019-to-2020" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/pre-16-schools-funding-guidance-for-2019-to-2020</a>. These will be updated with the latest pupil number data in December.</p><p>We are monitoring the impact of our national funding formula for high needs on local authority spending decisions and keeping the overall level of funding available under review.
