More than 68 million people in the region now require life-saving aid of whom 51 million people face severe food insecurity. Needs are most pressing in Somalia, Ethiopia and South Sudan. The UK is playing a lead in responding. UK funding of £156 million will help to provide millions of people with essential services and supplies including food, nutritional support, clean water and healthcare. The Group had a crucial role to play in providing ongoing reporting on the actions of parties. We continue to urge the parties involved to investigate these allegations and take action to promote and protect human rights. Yemen remains a human rights priority country for the UK. On 3 October, the Foreign Secretary summoned Iran's most senior diplomat in the UK, Mehdi Hosseini Matin, to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. We outlined our condemnation of the Iranian government's repression of human rights during protests and urged restraint. This message was reiterated again in a meeting on 26 October. It does not provide funding to the Egyptian security services. The CSSF Portfolio Board regularly reviews risk across all countries in which we have a programme. Human rights issues are considered as part of this and in this context, the Board discussed the situation in several countries, including Egypt, at the last board meeting in October. Overseas Security and Justice Assessments (OSJAs) are not published.</p><p>Egypt is a human rights priority country for the UK. Our strong bilateral relationship allows us to raise human rights issues frankly with the Egyptian government, both in private and public. The Prime Minister met with Egyptian President Sisi on 7 November to register his concern for Mr. Adb El-Fattah's welfare and expectation the case will be resolved quickly.
