answer text
Violence has no place in a democracy and the UK condemns the use of violence by any party to elections. The outcome of the June 2023 elections in Sierra Leone was for the Sierra Leonean people to decide. The UK commends the dedication Sierra Leoneans displayed in exercising their right to vote. Our High Commission and the Foreign Secretary have consistently called for transparency and clarity from the Government of Sierra Leone, election management bodies and opposition parties. The UK has also funded a voter education programme to increase communities' engagement with, and understanding of, the electoral process. The High Commission deployed observers across the country during polling and tallying of results and, along with other partners, we note logistical problems hampered voting on election day in certain areas. We share the concerns of observation missions about the lack of transparency in the tabulation process. We remain committed to supporting democracy and the aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people. We are urging everyone to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law, and engage in peaceful dialogue to resolve disputes.

answer text
Unfortunately, humanitarian access into Sudan remains highly constrained, with Port Sudan the primary entry point for relief supplies. Onward distribution from Port Sudan is very limited, owing to the ongoing intense conflict and continued tight control by the warring parties of humanitarian operations within Sudan. The UK is working with the UN, neighbouring states, donors and humanitarian agencies to pressure the parties to abide by their commitments under international humanitarian law and allow lifesaving humanitarian aid to reach the Sudanese people, in particular those in harder-to-reach areas such as Darfur and Kordofan.
more like this

answer text
The UK recognises the strain that the Sudan crisis is putting on neighbouring countries, such as Chad which is the second poorest country in the world and already hosting 400,000 Sudanese refugees in its eastern region. 141,000 additional people have sought refuge in Chad since the start of the Sudanese conflict. The UK rapidly allocated £2.75 million to provide urgent support to vulnerable Sudanese refugees and returnees. Of this, £1 million was provided to the Sahel Regional Fund to support non-governmental organisations provide protection and flexible humanitarian assistance according to needs, including on health, nutrition, water, sanitation, and shelter. £1.75 million was provided to the World Food Programme, to provide urgent food assistance and to preposition food stocks in Eastern Chad before roads become impassable due to seasonal floods. Alongside this commitment, the UK is pursuing all diplomatic avenues, including Ministerial and official-level engagement with regional counterparts, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the African Union, to end the violence, de-escalate tensions and support neighbouring countries who are grappling with an influx of people.

At COP27, the UK and all parties agreed to establish new funding arrangements for loss and damage, including the setup of a dedicated fund to assist developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. The UK is also committed to helping climate vulnerable countries to better access finance through a new approach being pioneered by the UK co-led Taskforce on Access to Climate Finance.
