Severe food insecurity levels and malnutrition rates, including pockets of famine, continue to worsen alongside an unprecedented dry season and cholera outbreak. The operational environment is significantly constrained with severe access issues and diminishing humanitarian space. Fighting continues across the country, causing widespread displacement and driving the humanitarian crisis. The UK deplores any promotion of violence against women and girls. The UK assess the PA’s commitment to gender equality, including tackling domestic violence, through their adherence to the UK Partnership Principles and we raise concerns where appropriate. Given the scale of the current crisis in Yemen, yesterday we further increased UK aid for 2017/18 to £139 million, to provide lifesaving aid to hundreds of thousands of desperate people. Where people are able to return, we are providing them with food, water, shelter and health care. We are supporting people to restart their livelihoods and providing solar power to re-establish health centres and schools. We are helping people to understand the risks of explosives left behind in their villages.
