answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/02/2019 answer text <p>The Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Act enables the UK to put in place a UK trade preferences scheme for developing countries. The UK trade preference scheme will provide the same level of access as the current EU trade preference scheme by granting duty-free, quota-free access to the 48 Least Developed Countries covered by the Everything But Arms tier.</p><p>The way to end poverty and aid dependency is through inclusive economic growth, jobs, investment and trade. Unilateral preferences, including those provided through the Everything But Arms tier, are part of the UK’s wider efforts to reduce poverty. By providing access into a larger market, preferences support job creation and entrepreneurship within developing economies. They play a vital part in supporting the UK’s global poverty reduction efforts. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/02/2019 answer text <p>The UK government is a strong supporter of the Fairtrade movement, which plays an important role in helping producers around the world improve their lives through receiving fair prices for their products. Between 2010 and 2018, the Department for International Development invested over £20.2m into Fairtrade.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>DFID has funded the development of Fairtrace, a technology-based supply chain mapping tool which has helped Fairtrade to broaden their commercial customer base. The tool has been used by major UK businesses such as The Co-op and Ben &amp; Jerry’s. The UK Government is extremely concerned about the situation in Venezuela and continues to call for all actors to allow unhindered access for humanitarian assistance to meet the urgent needs of the Venezuelan people.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There is a lack of official data from the Maduro regime, but the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that approximately 4.1 million people are currently undernourished.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We remain in touch with partners in the region, including through British Embassies and DFID advisers deployed to the region. DFID’s education programming has so far contributed to improved access to better quality education for 270,000 children in Northwest Syria, including children inside and outside the de-militarised zone. Our support in Idlib has also provided safe spaces for children and victims of gender-based violence, funded capacity building of vital child protection services by Syrian organisations and provided immunisations for 95,000 children under five between January and June 2018.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We continue to advocate for the protection of all civilians in Idlib, including at the UN Security Council, and call on all parties to adhere to agreed ceasefires and cessations of hostilities.
