While US economic sanctions were lifted in late 2017, Sudan remains a challenging place to do business. The economic situation has been exacerbated by a shortage of foreign exchange which has resulted in fuel shortages. Sudan is still unable to access international financial assistance, in part due to its arrears to the International Monetary Fund and others and the failure to service its debt. Politically, the UK continues to work with the Government of Sudan to ensure that constitutional and political rights are respected. Sudan remains a Human Rights Priority Country for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. DFID also has the option to deploy Team personnel only to work in existing national health facilities and did so to Nepal in 2015, Gaza in 2014 and the Philippines in 2013.</p><p>Taking into account lessons learned from previous deployments, including safety concerns for deploying UK nationals and problems with access and permits, the current Emergency Medical Team is not designed to be deployed into active conflict zones. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/07/2018 answer text <p>DFID has supported the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in Pakistan to revise specific textbooks including replacing any content that promotes prejudice and discrimination against religious or other minorities. In KP the subjects covered are English, mathematics, general knowledge and science. In Punjab, the focus is on English, Urdu, science and mathematics. DFID technical assistance to both provincial governments is also increasing the capability of the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board and the KP Textbook Board to carry out this work. In Sindh, DFID only supports education through non-state sector schools run by BRAC, The Citizen’s Foundation and Family Educational Services Foundation. UK aid is providing unrestricted cash assistance to meet the basic needs of 60,000 of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees; improved shelter accommodation for over 30,000 vulnerable refugees; legal assistance and advice (e.g. to obtain birth/marriage registration and civil documentation) to over 100,000 individuals; and clean water and sanitation facilities for over 250,000 Syrian and poor Lebanese. Last winter, DFID also provided 380 heating stoves to vulnerable Syrian refugee households in need of specific wintertime support. This requires greater domestic electricity capacity and energy imports from Israel and Egypt as well as institutional reform.</p><p> </p><p>b) My officials and I regularly raise the issuance of medical permits. I most recently raised our concerns about the situation in Gaza with the office for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) in May. We hold regular discussions with the Palestinian Ministry of Health on their plans to respond to the immediate needs in the health sector in Gaza.</p><p> </p><p>c) DFID enables <strong>reconstruction</strong> efforts in Gaza through our support to the Materials Monitoring Unit of the Gaza <strong>Reconstruction</strong> Mechanism, which monitors the import, storage, supply and use of construction materials.
