Since August 25th DFID has stepped up efforts with an additional £59 million to support refugees and the communities hosting them in Bangladesh. We have also provided £1 million to the Red Cross and £2 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide assistance in northern Rakhine, and stand ready to provide more once access restrictions are lifted. In discussions with counterparts in key donor governments, ministers from DFID and the FCO continue to stress the importance of stepping up funding to the UN’s Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP), and to disburse those funds quickly.
