answer text <p>The UK is a proud advocate of helping developing countries trade their way out of poverty. The Government has introduced the Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Bill which enables creation of a trade preference scheme. This will maintain existing tariff free access to the UK for Least Developed Countries as we leave the EU.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK is the largest donor to Gavi, the global vaccine alliance that provides developing countries with Pneumococcol to vaccinate against pneumonia. 109 million children were vaccinated between 2010 and 2016, thanks to Gavi’s support, saving an estimated 762,000 lives.</p><p>DFID supports Gavi’s Pneumococcol Advanced Market commitment which reduces costs, enabling 58 countries to introduce vaccinations. We also support countries to build stronger health systems that can respond to existing disease burdens and emerging health issues, including pneumonia.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK Government has committed to saving 1.4 million children’s lives by immunising 76 million children against killer diseases by 2020. Through the Ross Fund we are leading a major new global research programme. This will accelerate the development of vaccines and drugs to eliminate some of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases, as well as saving lives from malaria and TB.</p><p>DFID supports countries to build stronger health systems, which will be able to respond to the existing disease burden and emerging health issues.</p> more like this

To date DFID has (1) allocated £445m and (2) disbursed £40m to end of financial year 2016/17. DH has (1) allocated £461m and has (2) disbursed £22.3m to end of financial year 2016/17. answer text <p>The Ross Fund is a portfolio of programmes, identified in the UK Aid Strategy, led by either DFID or Department of Health (DH), aimed at combatting the world's most serious diseases.</p><p>DFID projects funded within the Ross Fund Portfolio are in four areas: 1) product development research, with support to the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative, Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics, Medicines for Malaria Venture, International AIDS Vaccine initiative, Aeras – TB vaccine development, TB Alliance, Innovative Vector Control Consortium, International Partnership for Microbicides, PATH diarrhoeal diseases vaccines and treatments, PATH meningitis vaccine project and PATH malaria diagnostics; 2) research for epidemic response with support to the World Health Organisation (WHO) R&amp;D Blueprint, joint DFID-Wellcome programme for epidemic response; 3) implementation research, with support to the Febrile Illness Evaluation in a Broad Range of Endemicities, the Coalition for Operational Research for Neglected Tropical Diseases; and 4) implementation programmes, with support to the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria, Global Guinea Worm Diseases Eradication Programme, Nigeria: Tackling Neglected Tropical Diseases through an integrated approach, Support for the Elimination of Lymphatic FILARIASIS, Capacity building through the WHO Department of Neglected Tropical Diseases.</p><p>DH projects funded within the Ross Fund Portfolio are the Fleming Fund, Vaccine Network, UK Rapid Support Team and the Global AMR Innovation Fund.</p>

answer text <p>The crisis in the Lake Chad Basin that affects Nigeria, Northern Cameroon, Niger and Chad is a priority for my Department. In 2017, we are providing £100 million in humanitarian assistance to northern Nigeria and over £14 million to other regions bordering Lake Chad, which will for example provide food assistance to more than 1.5 million people and reach 120,000 children with life-saving treatment for severe acute malnutrition. The UK is also providing over £8 million for stabilisation in the Lake Chad Basin region, including helping communities better respond to and manage the effects of violent conflict.</p> more like this
