Of this, £211m was on renewable energy and £12m on non-renewable. The remaining £250m spend was on energy policy, research, efficiency and distribution not directly associated with any fuel.</p><p>One of the UK’s development priorities is to help developing countries establish a secure and sustainable energy supply, in support of economic growth and poverty reduction, whilst simultaneously pursuing our climate and environmental objectives. We are clear that funding for Sittwe Hospital, provided as one part of this programme, must deliver improved access to healthcare for Rohingya people. We will not fund activities that further disadvantage this group.</p><p>Baroness Sugg raised the need for equal access to health treatment for all, when she met with the Rakhine State Health Director and the Union Minister of Health and Sport during her visit to Myanmar last autumn. This is in accordance with the Rakhine Advisory Commission recommendations. The staff contracted under this agreement are paid London Living wage in Whitehall and National Living wage in Abercrombie House. DFID covers the additional costs associated with the Living wage increases. This includes forestry, where DFID contributes to the UK’s efforts to protect biodiversity, reduce carbon emissions and support the livelihoods of communities reliant on forests and agriculture. Between 2016-2019, DFID provided grants totalling £211 million (bi-lateral and multi-lateral) for international forestry projects.</p><p>The UK is also doubling its International Climate Finance to at least £11.6 billion over the period 2021-2025 to help developing countries take action on climate change. All UK aid education programmes have a focus on girls and young women.</p><p>Between 2009 and 2018 DFID’s spend on education doubled from almost £500 million to nearly £1 billion.</p><p>The latest data, from Statistics on International Development shows that 7% of total bilateral ODA is spent on bilateral education, all of which benefits girls. Between 2015 and 2019 DFID supported 14.8 million children to gain a decent education, of which at least 5.8 million were girls. All UK aid education programmes have a focus on girls and young women. The UK’s Flagship Girls’ Education Challenge, the largest global fund to girls’ education, is now supporting up to 1.5million girls across 17 countries. The UK is spearheading the global girls’ education “Leave No Girl Behind” campaign, focussing on getting girls learning, building international political commitment and boosting global investment so that all girls have access to 12 years of quality education by 2030.</p><p>In August 2019 at the G7 Summit, the Prime Minister announced £90 million of new UK support for education in emergencies and crises across the world. This will support 600,000 children living in conflict areas and areas of proacted crises. We share similar views on many regional and strategic issues and have good security and trade relations. We are increasing our support to help the country develop its economy and address long term challenges like youth unemployment and tackling corruption while maintaining support to help build Tunisia’s capacity to deal with the terrorist threat. In 2019/20, the UK Government’s support is higher than ever providing support to economic development, economic reform and good governance. The 2015 UK Aid Strategy aligns the government’s efforts to deliver upon this commitment.</p><p>The International Development Act 2002 mandates DFID to use development assistance for poverty reduction. Internal review and approval processes ensure that programmes are focussed upon poverty alleviation and capacity building. Programme concept notes and business cases must demonstrate a focus on poverty reduction and sustainability to receive approval.
