Of this total figure, Turkey hosts over 2.7 million; Lebanon 1 million; Jordan more than 655,000; Iraq over 228,000; Egypt over 115,000; and 29,000 Syrian refugees are in North Africa. A further 1.1 million applications for asylum have been made by Syrians throughout Europe, with the majority in Germany and Serbia.</p><p>The UK is at the forefront of the response to the crisis and our support is reaching hundreds of thousands of people affected by it across the region and inside Syria. UN casualty figures for Ninewah (the governorate in which Mosul is located) estimate that 332 civilians were killed in November and 566 civilians in October. The UN, the UK and our partners are clear that the situation in Mosul is a result of Daesh’s utter disregard for civilians. The Iraqi Security Forces and the Coalition are making every effort during operations to protect civilians. The UN cannot verify these figures and state that they are likely to be at the lower end of the scale. The numbers are not disaggregated by the cause of civilian deaths.</p><p>As of 9 December, more than 85,000 people have been displaced from Mosul, half of them children. The UK is supporting the UN and partners to assist these people and around 45,000 people still inside Mosul in areas re-taken from Daesh, including children. The organisations through which we channel our support in Iraq do not identify or record beneficiaries by their religion. Since June 2014, the UK has committed £169.5 million in humanitarian assistance to the crisis in Iraq. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/12/2016 answer text <p>According to the recently published <a href="https://docs.unocha.org/sites/dms/Yemen/YEMEN%202017%20HNO_Final.pdf" target="_blank">UN Humanitarian Needs Overview for Yemen</a>, almost 4.5 million people are at risk of malnutrition or require treatment or prevention services for malnutrition. Of that number, almost half a million children under 5 suffer from severe acute malnutrition, and 2.8 million children and pregnant or lactating women are affected by moderate acute malnutrition.</p><p>The UK is providing £19 million to UNICEF this year to treat children with severe acute malnutrition and support mobile health clinics.
