answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK strongly believes that displaced persons camps in Syria, including Al-Hol, Al Roj and Rukban, should not become permanent, and hope that all Syrians currently living in such camps will be able to return home in due course. We support Syrians’ right to return home voluntarily, in safety and with dignity, in line with international humanitarian law, but only when conditions are right for this to happen.</p><p> </p><p>For many, returns will not be possible without an end to the conflict in Syria. We continue to support the UN-facilitated political process for Syria, which aims to reach a lasting settlement to the conflict that protects the rights of all Syrians. Alongside this, we are also using UK Aid to support those who do wish to return home from IDP camps. For example, we are supporting education, vocational training and job creation, and contributing to the restoration of basic services. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2019 answer text <p>We remain immensely concerned about the dreadful humanitarian situation in Al Hol camp in Northeast Syria as the camp population has grown to over 65,000 people since December 2018. The prevailing harsh winter conditions in Northeast Syria have so far resulted in the deaths of at least 97 people, two-thirds of whom were children under the age of five. Rapid increases in the camp population have severely strained the camp infrastructure and services, with shelter, water and sanitation, health and protection services identified by the UN as the priority areas.</p><p> </p><p>DFID remains committed to helping to alleviate the suffering of those in Al Hol. In 2018/19, the UK has allocated over £40 million to address basic-life saving needs across Northeast Syria where Al Hol camp is located. UK funded partners are doing all they can to support those affected by providing vital services including healthcare and shelter. Reaching those who most need our support remains an issue across Syria. To date, the UK has pledged £2.81 billion, including £1.03 billion for humanitarian support inside Syria. UK aid is providing life-saving support to millions of displaced civilians, including those in acute need across northern Syria and in Rukban camp.</p><p> </p><p>In financial year 2018/19, DFID has allocated over £40 million for Northeast Syria. We will also expect to provide approximately £87 million for activities in Northwest Syria. Our support in Idlib governorate alone has meant that approximately 572,000 people were provided with access to safe water and 500,000 people received medical consultations between January and June 2018.</p><p> </p><p>Between December 2016 and November 2018, DFID provided £4.14 million for essential humanitarian assistance, including water and health services, to those in acute need in Rukban camp. Whilst we were encouraged by the recent aid convoy that took place in November 2018, it is crucial that this is not viewed as a one-off event. It is right that those people should be safe from attack, and ultimately be able to return to their homes, but this can only happen when it is safe for them to do so.</p><p> </p><p>With our international partners, the UK continues to use our position at the UN and International Syria Support Group to advocate for the protection of civilians in Syria. Over 250,000 people have reportedly been displaced so far, some of them multiple times.
