answer text <p> </p><p>Since February 2011, DFID has undertaken several visits to Gambella and to Gambellan refugees residing in Kenya and South Sudan. answer text <p>The UK is playing a leading role in tackling violence against women and girls internationally. This includes supporting efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation and Child, Early and Forced Marriage, leading work on protecting women and girls from violence in humanitarian emergencies, and building the evidence on how to prevent violence before it starts through a £25 million research and innovation programme called ‘What Works to Prevent Violence'.</p><p> </p><p>I refer the hon. This includes working to end religious intolerance and persecution and we strongly condemn any alleged persecution and will continue to uphold the rights of citizens, regardless of faith, ethnicity or belief.</p><p>We only provide aid directly to governments where we are satisfied that they share our commitments to reduce poverty and respect human rights.
