I understand that he now has a further opportunity of appeal. <br> <br>The UK has raised this case at senior levels with the Government of Bahrain. Most recently, I discussed my concerns on the sentencing with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the UK on 5 November. We will continue to closely monitor the case as it makes its way through the judicial system. I underlined to Burma's Minister for International Cooperation on 1 November that the Commission of Inquiry needs to be independent and credible, draw on all available evidence and lead to a judicial process. We remain concerned about Israel’s extensive use of administrative detention. According to international law, this should be used only when security makes it absolutely necessary rather than as routine practice, and as a preventive rather than a punitive measure.
