answer text <p>Since 2014, no commercial fishing licenses have been issued whilst options for marine management around Ascension Island are considered.</p><p>However, between 2010 and 2013:</p><p>a) Fishing took place on 32% of available fishing days in the outer 25nm of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)<br>b) Fishing took place on 66% of available fishing days in the outer 50nm of the EEZ<br>c) Fishing took place on 79% of available fishing days in the outer 75nm of the EEZ<br>d) Fishing took place on 90% of available fishing days in the outer 100nm of the EEZ</p><p>The above data is generalised and not a definitive amount per area as catch data was reported by vessels weekly, however, only based on a single location per week.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Ascension Island Government contracted an independent consultant to review the management options for Ascension Island waters. This review examined various factors, including status of the tuna resources and bycatch. Between 2010-2013 when commercial fishing vessels operated around Ascension scientific data, including on bycatch, was collected by national observers on the vessels and is available through scientific papers presented at ICCAT.</p> more like this

answer text Consideration is currently being given to all options for marine management around Ascension Island. Any decision will be based on scientific justification, financial viability, effective enforcement and monitoring. The type of enforcement will depend on the management option selected. HMG funded a pilot satellite surveillance project around Ascension Island. This data is being used to inform future management and enforcement of Ascension Island’s waters. more like this
