answer text
Qualifying Care Relief (QCR) is a tax relief available to support foster carers, in addition to some other carers. QCR was first introduced as Foster Care Relief in 2003-04. This allowance is £10,000 per household per year, plus £250 per week per adult or child aged 11 or over (£200 for a child under 11).

It is important to consider that the QCR operates in addition to other reliefs and allowances. Foster carers are also entitled to the Personal Allowance, which may be available to cover any foster care income above the QCR allowance. The Government has increased the Personal Allowance (PA) by over 40 per cent in real terms since 2010, ensuring some of the lowest earners do not pay income tax. The PA is the highest basic personal tax allowance of all countries in the G20, and it remains one of the most generous internationally.

The Government keeps all aspects of the tax system under review.
more like this

answer text
Self-employed people can get tax relief for fuel and other business motoring expenses using either the simplified mileage rate or by claiming capital allowances and actual expenses. The mileage rate is an easier way of calculating the costs of owning and running a vehicle for tax purposes, intended to balance accuracy with administrative simplicity for businesses by using an average. This means that the rate will be more appropriate for some drivers than for others. Fuel is only one component of the rate, as it also covers the business proportion of other motoring costs such as servicing, insurance and depreciation.

The Government keeps all taxes under review, including the simplified mileage rate for the self-employed.
more like this

answer text
Treasury ministers and officials regularly engage with the Home Office to discuss shared policy interests, such as the response to fraud. The Treasury takes fraud extremely seriously and has been consistently clear that fraud is never acceptable and that those who have defrauded the government will be subject to both criminal and commercial recovery efforts. Since 2021, over £750m has been announced to combat fraud. This includes £25m for the creation of a new Public Sector Fraud Authority.

We do not hold estimates for the total financial cost of fraud in the UK to individuals and businesses for the financial years 2020-21, 2021-22 or the calendar year 2021. However, the Crime Survey for England and Wales estimates the volume of fraud experienced by individuals and their average losses.
