answer text <p>The Government recognises the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all of those on the frontline and has published guidance on appropriate PPE for emergency workers, including the police.</p><p> </p><p>The NPCC and the College of Policing have issued operational guidance to all forces on the use of PPE tailored to their unique role to ensure officers and staff are protected sufficiently. answer text <p>The Government recognises the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all of those on the frontline, including police.</p><p> </p><p>The Home Secretary and Minister for Policing have regular conversations with police forces about a range of matters including supply of PPE, ensuring a sufficient daily supply is available. The National Police Co-ordination Centre is co-ordinating police PPE procurement and distribution across the whole country and confirm that police currently have a good supply of PPE.</p><p> </p><p>The amount of PPE in stock and used by each force is not held centrally. That is an operational matter for forces.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) has issued guidance on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the police and other front line responders, and it is an operational matter for forces to ensure officers and staff are able to access this equipment to keep themselves and the public safe. It is for officers to risk assess individual situations to determine what PPE should be used, if any, in line with PHE’s guidance.</p><p>We are working across Government to ensure that the police’s need for PPE is understood and considered as supplies are prioritised across the country.</p> more like this

(HC287938, HC287939 and HC287940)</p><p>The Government is clear that police officers should have the best possible protection when facing the physical violence that is sometimes directed against them. Decisions on the purchase and supply of protective equipment are primarily for Chief Officers. The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory provides scientific and technical advice to support police where requested. The Home Office has made no assessment of the potential benefits for police officers’ mental and physical well-being of introducing needle-resistant gloves for use in searches.</p><p>Spit and bite guards provide officers with an important tactical option to protect themselves against spitting and reduce the worst effects of biting. The use of spit and bite guards is an operational matter for Chief Officers.</p> more like this
