At the time of writing the current range is estimated to be 0.7-0.9 and is based on latest data available to determine infection and transmission rates. The Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (SPI-M), which convenes once a week, builds a consensus on the value of R based on expert scientific advice from multiple academic groups. Testing symptomatic children is fundamental to this success. This will also be supported by, but is not dependent on, the NHS Test and Trace service.
