The British High Commission Colombo regularly meets a range of stakeholders in the Northern Province to hear their experiences and issues. A number of public bodies in Sri Lanka, including the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, have conducted tests into the water quality, after concerns were raised by local communities. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2024 answer text <p>NHS England is committed to improving diagnosis rates, and recovering to the national ambition for two thirds of people with dementia to have a formal diagnosis. This commitment is included in the operational planning guidance for 2023/24, giving clear direction for integrated care boards to prioritise dementia. The national ambition includes provision for a sub-type diagnosis.</p><p>NHS England has established a dedicated national programme team which co-ordinates the preparations for the potential roll out of new treatments, for use in the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s disease. These plans assume that, if these new treatments are approved by the regulators, significant additional diagnostic capacity including amyloid positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) lumbar puncture and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), will be needed both to identify patients who are most able to benefit, and to provide important safety monitoring for potential adverse effects during treatment.</p><p>The team at NHS England is taking concrete steps to ramp up preparations across the country and assess the additional scanning, treating, and monitoring capacity that will be needed. There is no doubt that police officers who have their service cut short through injury have made, and in many cases will continue to make, an invaluable contribution to the emergency services.</p><p>It is right that there are provisions to support police officers who are injured in the line of duty, through the provision of paid leave, the injury benefit scheme and medical retirement where appropriate. Alongside the existing Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, and the King’s Police Medal, work is continuing on an appropriate way to mark the contribution of emergency workers and other public servants who are killed while serving the public. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/02/2024 answer text <p>A ban on the supply and sale of disposable vapes has been announced as part of the Government’s response to its consultation on smoking and vaping, launched in October last year. When littered, disposable vapes can introduce plastic, nicotine salts, heavy metals, lead, mercury, and flammable lithium-ion batteries into the natural environment. These items and substances contaminate waterways and soil, posing a risk to the environment and animal health. A ban on the supply and sale of these throwaway items will help to protect our environment, as well as future generations, from the harmful effects of disposable vapes. Defra commissioned external research to further understand the environmental harms of disposable vapes, which is published <a href="https://sciencesearch.defra.gov.uk/ProjectDetails?ProjectId=21447" target="_blank">online</a>. It has significantly driven up monitoring and transparency from water companies in recent years. This includes achieving 100% Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) coverage across England, which measures how often and for how long storm overflows are used. Thames Water have installed 8 EDMs on the Pymmes Brook.</p><p> </p><p>In August 2022 the Government launched the most ambitious plan to reduce sewage discharges from storm overflows in water company history.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Agency (EA) works closely with the sewerage undertaker, Thames Water Utilities, to help identify and resolve misconnections along the Pymmes Brook. Misconnections, which are difficult to trace, are wrongly plumbed connections that mean dirty water or sewage that should be directed to foul sewers or a combined drainage system has been linked to a surface water sewer. This can mean water from household appliances such as dishwashers, showers, baths or toilets, can be flowing directly into the environment.</p><p> </p><p>Pollution from misconnections can be from multiple sources and can be continuous, with a low to medium impact on outfalls connected to the watercourse. There are powers under existing legislation that in certain cases enable water companies to investigate and fix problems caused by misconnections, including powers of entry and powers to disconnect wrongly connected drains from public sewers.
