As the digital revolution progresses, many more jobs will require digital skills and many more tech roles will be created, both in technology companies and in the general economy. We cannot afford for certain groups of people, including women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds, to be excluded from or unable to progress within these roles.</p><p> </p><p>While there is substantial progress that still needs to be made by technology companies to improve the gender and racial diversity of their staff, there are also significant industry-led initiatives aiming to solve the issue.</p><p> </p><p>Over 290 companies, from international tech giants right through to start-ups, SMEs and charities have already signed the Tech Talent Charter - an industry led initiative, supported by Government. The Charter gives organisations tangible actions and principles they can adopt to change their hiring and retention practices to become more gender-diverse and commits signatories to measuring the diversity profile of their UK employees and to share this data for (anonymous) collective publication in an annual report.</p><p> </p><p>There are also other industry-led programmes doing valuable and innovative work to help more women, ethnic minorities and other under-represented groups into tech, such as the #SheMeansBusiness initiative (by Facebook in collaboration with Enterprise Nation and FSB); the FDM Getting Back to Business programme; Fujitsu UK’s work on developing diverse role models within their workforce, and Backstage Capital, which is committed to investing in start-ups with diverse founders.</p><p> </p><p>We are also engaging with the work of organisations such as UK Black Tech and other organisations active in improving ethnic diversity in tech, and have recently convened an industry round table on inclusive technology in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineers.</p><p> </p><p>Under new Government legislation over 10,000 employers reported their gender pay gaps this year. We are now working with employers to help them understand their gender pay gaps, and support them to put plans in place to tackle gaps. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/11/2018 answer text <p>The latest figures reported by the ONS show that:</p><p>1: The value of UK exports of goods and services to countries outside the EU was £86.6bn and £86.1bn in Q1 2018 and Q2 of 2018 respectively. There has been an increase of 3.7% in UK exports to non-EU countries in the year to June 2018, compared to the previous 12 months.</p><p>The 3.7% growth in non-EU exports in the year to June 2018 was driven mainly by goods, which increased by £7.0bn (4.2%) over this period. Services exports also increased by £5.4bn (3.3%) in the year to June 2018.</p><p> </p><p>2: The value of UK imports of goods and services from EU countries was £86.4bn and £88.9bn in Q1 2018 and Q2 of 2018 respectively. There has been an increase of 4.9% in UK imports from the EU in the year to June 2018, compared to the previous 12 months.</p><p>The 4.9% growth in imports from the EU in the year to June 2018 was driven mainly by goods, which increased by £12.3bn (4.9%) over this period. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/11/2018 answer text <p>This Government wants to continue to support veterans and to do more, which is why on 14 November 2018 we published the Strategy for our Veterans (Cm 9726) and supporting UK Government Consultation Paper (Cm 9727) that outlines what we aim to do and consults on how we will achieve it. The full documents can be found at the following link:</p><p><strong>https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/strategy-for-our-veterans. </strong></p><p> </p><p>By 2028 we will be doing more to ensure that each veteran is valued, contributing and supported. One of our aims is that all veterans enjoy a state of positive physical and mental health and wellbeing, enabling them to contribute to wider aspects of society. In order to achieve this outcome, we will focus our efforts on enabling consistency of medical outcomes for veterans, through a smooth transition of provision from in-Service to post-Service and sharing effective practices amongst clinical and healthcare communities; providing bespoke treatment for those veterans who have bespoke needs because of their service, and targeting any identified health and wellbeing needs of veterans in comparison to the general population.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Veterans’ health is broadly aligned with that of the rest of the general population and most veterans’ health requirements are sufficiently met by existing NHS provision. However, several tailored initiatives are already in place to cater for specific veteran needs, including priority access to NHS secondary care in England, Scotland and Wales for Service related conditions, subject to the clinical need of all patients.
