answer text
The measures at Budget 2021, such as the continuation of the measures to respond to the impact of COVID-19, will support many people across society and promote this government’s belief in fairness. The Treasury carefully considers the impact of its decisions on those sharing protected characteristics, including at Budgets and other fiscal events, in line with both its legal obligations and with its strong commitment to promoting fairness. At Budget 2021, Ministers have paid such due regard to the equalities implications of their decisions and these decisions have been announced to Parliament. In interests of transparency we publish impacts in summary form for tax measures in tax information and impact notes (TIINs) alongside Finance Acts.
more like this

answer text
Freedom of religion or belief in Sudan continues to be an area of deep concern to the British Government. Along with international partners, we regularly attend court cases on freedom of religion or belief and raise related cases with the Government of Sudan. Through our project work we also seek to support lawyers who take on cases addressing important human rights issues, such as freedom of religion. More broadly, we also continue highlight our concerns about the conflict in South Kordofan, most recently via a joint statement with our Troika partners on 27 May. We welcome the Government of Sudan’s announcement of a cessation of hostilities on 17 June and urge all sides to respect this.
more like this

answer text
Any unaccompanied child who arrives in the UK receives clothing packs. All unaccompanied children present in the UK, regardless of their immigration status, are afforded the same level of care and support as British children. Unaccompanied refugee children brought to the UK through provisions in the Immigration Act 2016 will be given the appropriate support and care required. We continue to consult with local authorities on the best way to implement this legislation.

Last year the UK received 3,043 asylum applications from unaccompanied asylum seeking children. We have robust measures in place to receive and safeguard them. In addition we have committed to section 67 in the Immigration Act 2016 to receive unaccompanied children from Europe where it is in their best interests.

We are consulting with relevant non-governmental organisations, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), local authorities and relevant Member States on the best way to implement the Immigration Act 2016 provisions for the transfer of unaccompanied refugee children from Europe to the UK. We will ensure we have the right support for unaccompanied refugee children who arrive in the UK from Europe whilst ensuring we fulfil our obligations to children who are already in UK.

question text To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether, as a consequence of the Lord Chancellor’s disciplinary ruling in the case of Richard Page JP, they will indicate how they intend to ensure that those in public office find no hindrance in expressing, promoting or practising Christian morals and principles as a result of the Government's equality policies. more like this

answer text

Her Majesty’s Government’s firm view is that Christianity is a very important part of our society and national culture. The Lord Chancellor is himself a strong defender of Christian freedom of expression, and is categorical that a judicial office holder would never be, and has not been, disciplined solely on the basis of their religious views.

The disciplinary ruling in the case of Richard Page JP reflected the long-standing principle that cases before any court in the land are decided wholly on their facts, not on personal beliefs. This essential tenet for any fair and impartial justice system, and the oath magistrates take upon appointment has been in place since 1868 for that very reason.

This Government has actively promoted the great Christian heritage of this country and believes that Christianity plays a vital role in our national life and that faith inspires people to become involved in public service including providing help to those in need.
