In addition to removing trade barriers through negotiation of new Free Trade Agreements we are boosting our technical expertise in key markets through expansion of our network of dedicated agri-food attachés to 10 posts across the globe. These roles resolve market access barriers, support export growth and provide market insight to enable British companies to target markets with the highest potential. There is strong export potential for dairy products and a growing international reputation, especially for cheese. Our attaches will work with dairy companies to build our market share further and generate further awareness and demand.

As well as maximising market access, the Government is working with the sector to build capability and competitiveness in international markets. The new UK-wide Food and Drink Exports Council, which will be launched early next year, brings together industry and Governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to boost exports from all parts of the UK and build export capability in the sector, especially in SMEs. The Department for International Trade provide a broad range of export support to help companies begin or progress their export journey, including advice on entering particular markets and opportunities to showcase products to international buyers.

answer text
The African Union (AU) is Africa's foremost multilateral body and a key strategic partner for many UK priorities. We collaborate effectively across a range of issues such as peace and security, climate change, global health and trade. This includes supporting the AU on the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the AU's Green Recovery Action Plan and funding £20 million to the AU's Covid-19 Response Fund. The AU plays an important role in regional stability and we are grateful for the role the African Union played in brokering the Cessation of Hostilities agreement between the Ethiopian Government and Tigray People's Liberation Front on 2 November.
more like this

answer text
The Government confirmed at Spring Budget 2021 that it would remove the entitlement to use red diesel from most sectors from April 2022.

The Government recognised that this would be a significant change for some businesses and ran a consultation to gather information from affected users on the expected impact of these tax changes and make sure it had not overlooked any exceptional reasons why other sectors should be allowed to continue to use red diesel beyond April 2022.

Having assessed the cases made by other sectors to retain their red diesel entitlement, the Government did not believe that they were compelling enough to outweigh the need to ensure fairness between the different users of diesel fuels, the Government’s long-term environmental objectives and the need for the tax system to incentivise the development of greener alternatives to polluting fuels.

In response to high fuel prices, the Government announced a temporary 12-month cut to the duty on petrol and diesel of 5p per litre and an equivalent percentage cut on the rates for rebated fuels. Overall, this is a tax cut for consumers, including small businesses, worth around £2.4 billion in 2022-23.

As with all taxes, the Government keeps the red diesel entitlement under review.
