<p>Published statistics are available that show Initial Teacher Training recruitment
in each of the last five years against the targets as set by the Teacher Supply Model.

In 2011/12 to 2014/15 figures from the TSM are estimated by removing undergraduate
trainees.</p><p> </p><p>These figures are published in table 1b in the statistical
first release ‘Initial teacher training: trainee number census - 2016 to 2017’.</p><p>Teaching
continues to be an attractive career choice among graduates and secondary postgraduate
recruitment is at its highest level since 2011/12. This is a great achievement, given
the increasingly competitive graduate market.</p><p>Schools recruit teachers in a
variety of different ways including Newly Qualified teachers, those returning to teaching,
and those who have previously taught outside the state-funded schools sector.</p>
