We are committed to acting on the decision taken by the British people to leave
the EU and to withdraw from the Common Fisheries Policy. As announced in the Queen’s
Speech, the Government will introduce a Fisheries Bill, enabling the UK to take responsibility
for the access to and management of its fishing waters. The introduction of the Bill
is supplemented by our decision to leave the London Fisheries Convention. The UK Government
triggered withdrawal from the London Fisheries Convention on 3 July 2017, marking
the first step towards building a new domestic fishing policy – one which leads to
a more competitive, profitable and sustainable industry for the whole of the UK.
