answer text <p>As committed to in the agreed <em>New Decade, New Approach </em>deal, this Government will legislate to guarantee unfettered access for Northern Ireland’s businesses to the whole of the UK internal market, and ensure that this legislation is in force for 1 January 2021.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is currently considering the best way to implement the Protocol, and will be discussing this with the EU in the Joint Committee and Specialised Committee, as well as engaging extensively with the Executive, wider Assembly and businesses in Northern Ireland.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Protocol ensured that the UK left the EU as one United Kingdom whilst upholding the provisions of the Belfast (“Good Friday”) Agreement.</p><p> </p><p>The provisions of the Protocol mean that there will be no hard border with Ireland. Northern Ireland remains part of the UK customs territory and will be able to participate in the UK’s free trade agreements.</p><p> </p><p>The Protocol ensures that there will be no diminution of certain rights, safeguards and equality of opportunity provisions, as set out in the Belfast (“Good Friday”) Agreement, as a result of the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Under the new immigration system the UK will attract and keep the best talent from around the world, welcoming people to Northern Ireland and the whole UK based on how they can help grow the economy.</p><p> </p><p>We have engaged with all sectors of the Northern Ireland economy and will continue to do so. A programme of engagement will begin in March 2020 to raise awareness of the new system. Labour market data will be kept under very careful scrutiny to monitor any pressures in key sectors.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise that businesses will need to adjust, investing in the skills of resident workers, in staff retention and in technology and automation where relevant. Initiatives have already been introduced for the agricultural sector, which will provide businesses with additional flexibility in the shorter term.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Clause 23 and Schedule 3 of the EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020 provide for certain changes to the Northern Ireland Act 1998 that will confer new statutory powers on the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. Those new powers will allow the Commissions to monitor, report on and enforce the Government’s commitment, as set out in Article 2(1) of the Northern Ireland/Ireland Protocol to the Withdrawal Agreement, that no diminution of certain rights, safeguards and equality of opportunity set out in the Belfast (‘Good Friday’) Agreement results from the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Article 2 of the Northern Ireland Protocol to the Withdrawal Agreement commits the UK Government to ensuring that no diminution of certain rights, safeguards and equality of opportunity set out in the Belfast (‘Good Friday’) Agreement results from the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. That Article, which requires the UK to implement the commitment through “dedicated mechanisms”, applies from the end of the transition period.
