answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/12/2014 answer text <p /> <p>The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.</p><p> </p><p>On the MoJ estate there are already a number of renewable micro-generation projects including at Leeds Combined Court and HM Prisons: Haslar; Holloway; Lindholme; Maidstone; Portland; Wayland; Werrington and Wetherby. Micro-generation is often found to be less efficient than other energy reduction projects such as insulation and lighting improvements. In 2013/14 the MoJ reduced its water consumption by 4% against a 2009/10 baseline. The team that coordinates responses to the majority of correspondence gather briefly each day to manage their workload. This can involve suggestions from team members for improving processes, including logging. They meet more formally once a month, when improvements can also be proposed. The team meets once a fortnight with Ministers' private offices to review how correspondence is handled and issues monthly management information to members of the senior civil service responsible for correspondence handling in their teams, to focus on performance.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has a 15 working-day target to respond to Members. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/11/2014 answer text <p /> <p>The Government is creating, in the Criminal Justice and Courts Bill, a new criminal offence which targets those who disclose private sexual photographs and films without the consent of the person depicted and with intent to cause that person distress.</p><p> </p><p>The provisions to create the new offence were tabled as a Government Amendment at Lords Report stage of the Bill on 20 October and were warmly received and supported across the House.</p><p> </p><p>The offence will cover the disclosure of private and sexual photographs or films of individuals who have not consented to this disclosure, such as those of them engaged in sexual activity, depicted in a sexual way, or with their genitals exposed, where what is shown would not usually be seen in public. It will apply to disclosures taking place online and offline. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/09/2014 answer text <p>Since the start of the Spending Review (SR10) the size of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) estate has reduced by over 600 properties to nearly 1,500 properties. As a result, lower business as usual costs have been achieved. We have removed nearly 50% of the administrative estate from our portfolio over the last four years. We have already reduced 180 to 98 administrative properties in England and Wales including from 18 to 4 administrative properties in London, saving over £34m a year.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the Government’s Strategic Land and Property Review, Departments have already committed to reforms expected to release land worth £3.5 billion between 2015 and 2020, with a further £1.5 billion expected to be identified following the outcome of operational reviews.</p><p> </p><p>The Ministry of Justice continues to work with the Government Property Unit to ensure that the Ministry of Justice estate operates in an efficient manner and represents value for money.</p><p> </p><p>I refer my hon. Friend to the latest State of the Estate Report (SofTE) which reports annually on progress made during the year in improving the efficiency of the Government’s Civil Estate. This is available online at:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/state-of-the-estate" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/state-of-the-estate</a></p><p> </p><p>The latest space savings mean that the estate is 2 million sq m smaller since January 2010, the result of consistent efforts by departments to reduce their property holdings and increase the efficiency of the space they occupy</p><p> </p><p>This reduction in the size of the Estate has been achieved through extensive co-operation between departments and agencies in engaging with place-based strategies, as well as the continuing impact of the National Property Controls (NPCs).</p><p> </p><p>NPCs include a moratorium on the acquisition of new properties and a presumption that leases will be surrendered at the earliest contractual opportunity. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/09/2014 answer text <p>Legal aid forms a vital part of our justice system and the Government strongly believes that access to justice is the hallmark of civil society.</p><p> </p><p>The most recent EU data allowing international comparisons of legal aid spend was collected in 2010 and published 2012 by the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ). This can be found at: <a title="http://www.coe.int/t/dghl/cooperation/cepej/evaluation/2012/Rapport_en.pdf" href="http://www.coe.int/t/dghl/cooperation/cepej/evaluation/2012/Rapport_en.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.coe.int/t/dghl/cooperation/cepej/evaluation/2012/Rapport_en.pdf</a>.</p><p> </p><p>This shows that the legal aid budget approved for England and Wales of 2.521m Euros, was the highest of any of the 41 countries assessed. For more detail, see table 2.1 in the publication.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The publication also shows the annual public budget allocated to legal aid per inhabitant, which controls for countries having different population sizes. This shows that in 2010, England and Wales was second highest of the 41 countries assessed, with 45.7 Euros of the public budget allocated to legal aid per inhabitant, compared to an average of 7.7 Euros for the other European countries. The country with the highest legal aid allocation per inhabitant was Northern Ireland with 53.5 Euros.
