Officials at our Embassy in Jakarta visit Papua and West Papua provinces regularly. Officials press the Indonesian authorities to address legitimate human rights concerns, including upholding the right of all citizens to protest peacefully, and promote the sustainable and equitable development of the provinces. Officials in Jakarta last met Tapol in Jakarta in March 2018 and are planning to meet them again in November. Our Ambassador to Indonesia, Moazzam Malik visited the province in November last year as part of his regular programme of travel around Indonesia. During the visit, he met local government officials, civil society groups, businesses and local communities. Economic development, sustainable forest management and human rights were all discussed. President Joko Widodo's development agenda for Papua is ambitious and we will continue to support sustainable development across the region. During the visit the Ambassador raised concerns about freedom of expression, media access, and the resolution of past human rights cases.
