answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/12/2023 answer text <p>Due to the ongoing conflict, Sudan continues to grapple with mass displacement, disease outbreaks and malnutrition. The health system has been overwhelmed by attacks on health facilities and the scarcity of medical supplies, equipment, health workers and operational funds. The World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting Sudan with cholera treatments (including antibiotics, oral rehydration solution, intravenous fluids and rapid diagnostic tests), in addition to providing direct support to cholera isolation centres. The UK is funding Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and health activities in Sudan via the Sudan Humanitarian Fund, UNICEF, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). With support from WHO and health partners, the Ministry of Health is coordinating efforts (in areas of the country that are still accessible) to scale up access to clean water and sanitation facilities, as well as ensuring affected and at-risk communities are aware of transmission risks and proper hygiene practices to reduce contamination risks and prevent further spread of the outbreak. We are supporting the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (WHO), and will deploy a Senior Epidemiologist to assist with coordination efforts to bolster the national response. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/12/2023 answer text <p>The UK has consistently denounced all human rights violations that have taken place since the military coup on 25 October 2021, including the escalation in incidents since 15 April 2023. We condemn the ongoing attacks on innocent civilians by militias, particularly the Rapid Support Forces; this violence has all the hallmarks of ethnic cleansing. The UK, alongside the Troika (US &amp; Norway), issued a joint statement on 17 November condemning the reported mass killings including ethnic targeting of non-Arab and other communities, killings of traditional leaders, unjust detentions, and obstruction of humanitarian aid. We continue to denounce conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in Sudan including at the UN Human Rights Council and Security Council, and in a joint statement in July, alongside 15 other members, by the International Alliance on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict. The UK has enhanced its atrocity risk monitoring, including the monitoring of CRSV. Since Mr El-Fattah's sentencing in December 2021, the UK Government has remained in contact with his family and have made numerous representations to the Egyptian authorities concerning his imprisonment and welfare, and continue to make regular requests for consular access. The Prime Minister most recently raised this case with President Sisi on 20 October. The UK is one of the largest donors to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, pledging £1 billion to the Global Fund over the next three years. This Fund treated 4.2 million cases of malaria in Sudan and South Sudan in 2022.To effectively tackle disease outbreaks in South Sudan, the FCDO works closely with the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team who aid investigations and coordinate information flow between the South Sudanese ministries of Health, World Health Organization and in-country partners. In this calendar year, we have provided £3.5 million to ICRC, to support their 2023 appeal, which includes support to health facilities. In South Sudan, the UK has been a leading donor to the health sector for more than ten years, spending over £280 million. Our Health Pooled Fund programme, co-funded by partners, seeks to deliver improved health and wellbeing for the population of South Sudan. This approach is fully consistent with our obligations under the Genocide Convention and Rome Statute. Whether or not genocide is declared, the UK will continue to work to end violations of international human rights law and, where appropriate, international humanitarian law, and to alleviate the suffering of those affected. The UK is committed to protecting human rights in Ethiopia and across the globe.
