answer text
We are aware of the ongoing persecution of faith leaders and ethnic and religious minorities in Myanmar, including in Karen state. We condemn all identity-based violence, including reports that religious sites are being targeted by military airstrikes. In December 2022, the UN Security Council passed the first ever resolution on the situation in Myanmar, led by the UK. The Resolution demands an end to violence, stresses the need for the protection of minority groups and calls for the immediate release for all those arbitrarily detained.
more like this

answer text
The UK finalised a refreshed Joint Analysis of Conflict and Stability (JACS) in Myanmar in March 2022. The JACS provides a detailed assessment of the drivers of conflict, instability and atrocities in Myanmar, including in Karen state. The JACS underpins the UK's strategic approach to conflict and identity-based violence in Myanmar, including our understanding of drivers of conflict and human rights violations in Karen. The JACS recognises, in particular, the role that ethno-religious nationalism played in fuelling widespread violence against groups in Myanmar, including the Karen.
more like this

answer text
There has been an escalation of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) against women and girls in Sudan since 15 April. The UK has consistently condemned these crimes in our public statements, at the UN Human Rights Council and Security Council, and in our diplomatic lobbying. We continue to fund and provide support to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sudan that provides a crucial role in monitoring and reporting on human rights violations. We are liaising closely with them as they now set up and run their remote working mechanisms. On 4 May, the UK announced a £5 million initial package of humanitarian support to help address the urgent needs of people fleeing violence in Sudan, with £2.5 million allocated to Chad and £2 million to South Sudan. The UK is working with its partners to ensure strong gender and inclusion conflict analyses underpin all aspects of the crisis response.
more like this

answer text
We are aware of human rights violations in Tibet, including restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, freedom of assembly and association, and reports of forced labour. We coordinate with partners to draw international attention to the human rights situation in Tibet, most recently on 20 May 2023 in the G7 Leaders' Communique, and in March 2023, as part of our Item 4 statement at the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC). In June 2022, a UK-led lobbying effort helped to secure the support of 46 other countries for a joint statement at the UN HRC, which highlighted the situation in Tibet. We urge China to respect all fundamental rights across the People's Republic of China, including in Tibet, in line with both its own constitution and the international frameworks to which it is a party.
more like this

Myanmar is the Indo-Pacific's most desperate humanitarian crisis, with over 17.6 million people requiring humanitarian assistance, and over 1.6 million displaced. This has been exacerbated due to the impact of Cyclone Mocha. Myanmar is now the 6th highest food insecure country globally. The UK has taken steps to hold the military to account through targeted sanctions, and has also responded to urgent humanitarian needs. Since the coup on 1 February 2021, the UK has provided over £100 million in life saving assistance, emergency healthcare and education for displaced and conflict affected people.
more like this
