answer text
We welcome the successes achieved by the Nigerian armed forces against Boko Haram, pushing the group out of key towns in North East Nigeria. However, Boko Haram continues to present a serious threat to security in North East Nigeria and the wider region. We estimate that over 20,000 people have been killed by Boko Haram, over 2.4 million people displaced and over 17 million affected by the Boko Haram insurgency across the Lake Chad basin. In March 2015 Boko Haram pledged allegiance to Daesh, since then there has been a split between factions within Boko Haram.
more like this

answer text
It is for Lancashire and North Yorkshire County Councils, working with their Rail North and Transport for the North partners, to decide whether to progress consideration of this reinstatement as part of the Northern Transport Strategy. This consideration will be informed by the results of a recent study commissioned for the local campaign group, SELRAP, supported by a number of local authority partners, on the conditional outputs in improved local and regional connectivity that any reinstatement should seek to address.

This Government has made significant funding available to Local Enterprise Partnerships and local authorities through both devolution and the growth deals. Over £2billion Local Growth Fund will be spent on local transport schemes in the North up to 2021. We expect that local areas in the North will continue to use these processes to promote their priority local transport schemes.
more like this

answer text
All vehicles, including connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), must be used in line with UK road traffic law. Failure to comply with UK law may well result in enforcement agencies taking action.

The Pathway to driverless cars: a regulatory review, published in February 2015, sets out how current laws apply to CAVs, and points to where the position is not clear and should be reviewed further. For example, chapter 13 deals with insurance, and Annex B looks at innovative personal transport.

In addition, to secure the safe development and introduction of CAVs in the UK, the Pathway sets out a number of action points. The government is working on these, including having published the Code of Practice for testing automated vehicles in July 2015, to ensure that British citizens and businesses will benefit from CAVs in the short and long term.
more like this

answer text
Preston-Blackpool South will get a Sunday service all year round. At present the line shuts down for a period in the winter, but from Dec 2017 at least an alternate-hours service will operate all year round. Colne-Preston will get a full hourly Sunday service – twice as many trains on Sunday compared to now, and with the entire Northern fleet being refurbished, passengers will notice rolling stock improvements across the franchise.

Accrington and Blackburn stations will become Northern Connect stations so will be staffed from 6am to 10pm (if they don’t already have staffing hours longer than this), with WiFi and catering outlets. All Northern stations with more than 10 passengers per day will have ticket machines, real-time information and help points.

Beyond that there is a franchise wide, £38m investment in bringing stations up to standard, with benefits for many stations, which includes new platform seating, replacement shelters, new waiting rooms and toilets, and customer information screens.
