answer text
We require individuals coming under existing immigration routes to demonstrate an appropriate level of English. Currently, for skilled workers, this is currently set at intermediate (B1) level. Applicants can meet this requirement if they:

pass a Secure English Language Test at an approved test centre;

are a medical professional who has passed an English Language assessment for their professional registration in the UK;

hold a degree qualification which was taught in English;

are a national of a majority English-speaking country; or

have shown that they meet the requirement in a previous immigration application.

Having a suitable English language requirement is crucial to ensuring people coming to live, work and study in the UK are able to integrate into society. Future requirements will broadly reflect current arrangements. more like this

answer text
The Government is committed to levelling up the powers of combined authority mayors. In the West Midlands, this includes the option of a transfer of PCC functions to the Mayor. The consent of the Combined Authority, each of the constituent councils of the Combined Authority and the Mayor are legal requirements for a transfer of functions to take place. The views of the PCC are a factor in any consideration.

The current Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, is supportive of combining both roles. However, this step has been blocked by Labour Group leaders.
more like this

answer text
We indicated in our initial response to the Joint Committee’s report, published in July 2019, that we would publish a further response in due course addressing around ten recommendations where we needed more time to fully consider the Committee’s proposals. We aim to publish that further response alongside the Domestic Abuse Bill.

We will also publish an updated impact assessment alongside the Bill. As the Minister for Safeguarding and Vulnerability indicated at Second Reading of the Bill in the last Parliament (Official Report, House of Commons, 2 October 2019, column 1331), we will prioritise the funding for the Bill in the 2020 Spending Review.
more like this
