We have supported the development of COVID-19 vaccines in the UK through a number of investments, including:</p><ul><li>£20 million to fund clinical trials of the University of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.</li><li>Over £40 million for the development of Imperial College London’s vaccine.</li><li>£33.6 million for the Human Challenge Programme.</li><li>£22 million for a world-leading study to test the effectiveness of combinations of different COVID-19 vaccines. This will also fund the world’s first study assessing the effectiveness of a third dose of vaccine to improve the response against current and future variants of COVID-19.</li></ul><p> </p><p>The Government has also funded the NHS Registry, developed by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), to enable individuals to sign up to participate in COVID-19 vaccine trials. This has made the UK well-suited to facilitate clinical trials that are essential to the development of any vaccine. As of 9 June 2021, over 502,000 people had signed up.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has also joined COVAX, an international initiative to support the discovery, manufacture, and fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines across the world. This data is shared daily with local authority Directors of Public Health to identify emerging trends and prevent any developing inequalities locally. Qualitative information about the reasons for vaccine refusal is also collected.</p><p> </p><p>We are working across Government to consider how best to maximise vaccine uptake. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/06/2021 answer text <p>Vaccine supplies have already been set aside to ensure that everyone who has already received their first dose will receive their second dose within 12 weeks of their first.</p><p> </p><p>The National Immunisation Management System (NIMS) is the centralised service for the management of both the COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccination programmes established by NHS England. If an individual is invited for a COVID-19 vaccination via a general practitioner (GP), and once the patient has a vaccination, this information is entered onto to the patients’ GP record and recorded on NIMS. A second vaccination appointment can then be offered to the patient in the following 12-week period, in line with national guidance. Vaccinations will be recorded on NIMS and updates sent to GP systems. Since 23 April 2021, these data have been provided directly by PHE.</p><p> </p><p>PHE provides daily COVID-19 vaccine data to Directors of Public Health in England, including for Waltham Forest. These data include breakdowns to lower super output area (LSOA) level by age, sex and ethnicity. This year’s data was published on 19 May and can be found at: <a href="http://www.gov.uk/government/publications/steel-public-procurement-2021" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/government/publications/steel-public-procurement-2021</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The reported value of UK steel procured in 2019/20 for major public projects was £108m, a 33% increase on the previous year. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/07/2021 answer text <p>The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has regular meetings with Novavax regarding their submission for the vaccine but this is not yet complete. A review of the quality, safety and efficacy data will be required before the MHRA and Commission on Human Medicines can consider approval of the vaccine.</p><p>As trial participants become eligible for the vaccination programme, they should discuss with the trial investigator to decide whether they should receive an approved COVID-19 vaccine. This should be informed by whether they had received a placebo or control vaccine, an active vaccine with known efficacy against COVID-19, an experimental trial vaccine product with no current efficacy data and whether they have received a full proposed or incomplete regimen. There is currently a lack of evidence to inform whether a subsequent dose of a different COVID-19 vaccine after a full regimen of experimental vaccine provides any benefit.
