The Department for Education provides a service to process intercountry adoption
cases in accordance with the legislative framework. We provide prospective adopters
with information and guidance on the intercountry process but do not provide legal
advice on individual cases and independent legal advice may need to be obtained. Prospective
adopters habitually resident in the UK, who wish to undertake an intercountry adoption
need to be assessed and approved by a registered adoption agency, which will support
them through the process.

Information on the intercountry adoption process
