answer text
The Government met its target of offering a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to everyone in the top four priority cohorts, as recommended by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), by 15 February. The Government and the National Health Service are on course to meet the targets to offer a first dose of vaccination to the top nine priority cohorts by mid-April and all adults by the end of July 2021.

On 26 February, the JCVI published its interim advice for phase two of the COVID-19 vaccination programme covering adults aged 18-49 years old, setting out that the most effective way to minimise hospitalisations and deaths is to continue to prioritise people by age. answer text
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) consists of independent experts who advise the Government on which vaccine/s the United Kingdom should use and provide advice on prioritisation at a population level. They advised that phase one of the vaccination programme should have the prevention of mortality at the forefront of its objectives, as well as supporting the National Health Service and social care system.

Parents of babies in neonatal units who are aged over 50 years old or who have underlying health conditions which make them clinically vulnerable or clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19 are being given priority access to a COVID-19 vaccination in the first phase, which we are aiming to complete by the middle of April. All other parents of babies in neonatal units will be offered the vaccine in priority order, with a target date of the end of July, in line with advice from the JCVI.

The JCVI has recommended that access to the COVID-19 vaccines should continue to be prioritised by age as this is the biggest determining factor to increased mortality from the disease.

answer text
The National Health Service is grateful for the support that businesses have offered and is in the process of establishing vaccination centres across the country that can manage the logistical challenge of needing to store the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine at an appropriate temperature. Our approach, with three delivery models – community teams, vaccination sites, and hospital hubs – has been devised to be flexible and reach all parts of the country. The phased vaccination programme - which began on 8 December 2020 with hospital hubs - will be expanded over the coming weeks and months to include local vaccination services and largescale vaccination centres across the country. More than 730 vaccination sites have already been established across the UK and hundreds more are opening this week to take the running total to over 1,000.
more like this

answer text
The NHS has a tried and tested track record for delivering vaccination programmes and is working with existing partners across the healthcare system to ensure the Covid-19 vaccine can be deployed safely and effectively. Deployment planning is being led by local integrated care system/sustainability and transformation partnerships, with clinical commissioning groups playing a key role in the planning with partners across their system.

In particular, local systems are best placed to reach out to our diverse communities and avoid inequalities in access, and every system should have a plan for full coverage for health inclusion groups. Regional teams working with local systems have identified local health inclusion groups that will require access to the vaccine, within eligible patient cohorts. Locally commissioned arrangements to reach these groups may include local NHS Community & Mental Health Trust providers, PCNs or partnership activity with statutory and voluntary services.  Working with Primary Care Networks and NHJS regional teams, Clinical Commissioning Group have also played an important role selecting local vaccination sites. CCGs are also co-ordinating arrangements for all health and care staff to receive their vaccination locally.
