The airline that had proposed operating direct services, Gambia Bird Airlines, were invited to make representations to the Department for Transport and these are currently under consideration. In 2006/07 the Bikeability cycle training programme was launched, and over 1 million young people have been trained to the National Standard. However, we said in last year’s Aviation Policy Framework that the aviation sector’s economic output to the whole UK economy in 2011 was approximately £18 billion, and that it employs around 220,000 workers directly and supports many more indirectly.
