answer text <p> </p><p>As a matter of long-standing practice we do not comment on the operational use <br>of covert surveillance, or provide a breakdown of the number of warrants signed <br>by particular Secretaries of State, or in relation to specific circumstances or <br>methods of surveillance. <br><br>Existing regulation relating to surveillance includes the surveillance camera <br>code of practice issued under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, which <br>provides a framework of good practice for surveillance camera operators and <br>sets out obligations arising from other legislation including those for the <br>processing of personal data under the Data Protection Act 1998 and a public <br>authority's duty to adhere to the Human Rights Act 1998. Any covert <br>surveillance undertaken by a public authority which is likely to obtain private <br>information would be subject to authorisation under the Regulation of <br>Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA).</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p> </p><p>The Government continues to have regular discussions with our EU partners in <br>order to ensure that all Member States operate effective asylum and border <br>management systems, including through cooperation with countries of origin and <br>transit beyond the EU. This includes the UK's participation in the EU's Task <br>Force Mediterranean, established following the Lampedusa tragedy last year to <br>develop actions to prevent further deaths at sea.<br><br>The Task Force involves Member States, the European Commission, the European <br>External Action Service (EEAS) and key EU agencies (including Frontex, the <br>European Asylum Support Office and Europol). It has developed a series of <br>coherent actions, including cooperation with third countries and combating the <br>organised criminals who facilitate many of these dangerous sea crossings.<br><br>The Government strongly supports the Task Force proposal to develop information <br>campaigns in countries of origin and transit as part of wider prevention <br>efforts, and has shared our experience in this area with EU partners.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>It is not possible to accurately quantify the number of immigration offenders in the UK as, by their very nature, those that deliberately evade immigration control to enter and stay in the country illegally are not officially recorded until they come to light and are arrested.</p><p> </p><p>The Immigration Bill will provide new powers to implement exit checks, which the last Labour Government scrapped in 1998. This will allow the Home Office to screen those who leave the UK to identify threats and persons of interest to Border Force, immigration enforcement and other law enforcement bodies, and to enable an appropriate response.<br><br>The Home Office continues to prevent abuse, pursue offenders and increase compliance with immigration law - our Immigration Compliance and Enforcement teams across the UK target illegal migrants who have no right to live and work in the community.<br><br>The Immigration Bill will stop migrants using public services to which they are not entitled, reduce the factors which encourage people to come to the UK and make it easier to remove people who should not be here.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

We recognise that, in general, lesbian, gay, bisexual, <br>transgender and intersex (LGBTI) persons may be at risk of persecution and <br>warrant protection, and that this may have increased in particular for lesbian, <br>gay and bisexual (LGB) persons following the signing of the Anti-Homosexual <br>Act. However, each case needs to be considered on its individual facts. <br>In light of the Act, which specifically targets ‘homosexuality', we published <br>updated guidance covering lesbian, gay and bisexual claims on the Gov.uk <br>website on 10 April. <br>We are monitoring the situation and will publish updated guidance on LGBTI <br>persons once it is clear how the law is being applied in practice.</p><p> </p> more like this
