answer text <p>The Government introduced the High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) from January 2013 in order to ensure that support is targeted at those who most need it. It applies to anyone with an individual income over £50,000, who receives Child Benefit or whose partner receives it. The charge increases gradually for taxpayers with incomes between £50,000 and £60,000.</p><p> </p><p>The numbers of those with a High Income Child Benefit Charge liability in each year are published at:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/high-income-child-benefit-charge-data/high-income-child-benefit-charge" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/high-income-child-benefit-charge-data/high-income-child-benefit-charge</a>.</p><p> </p><p>A cumulative total of the number of those paying the charge since it was introduced could only be made available at disproportionate cost.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government introduced the High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC) from January 2013 to ensure that support is targeted at those who need it most. It applies to anyone with an individual income over £50,000, who gets Child Benefit or whose partner gets it. The charge increases gradually for taxpayers with incomes between £50,000 and £60,000.</p><p> </p><p>HM Revenue and Customs may charge penalties for each year an individual fails to notify them of their liability to HICBC or send an inaccurate tax return which results in HICBC being unpaid.</p><p> </p><p>Since HICBC was introduced almost 170,000 penalties have been charged for HICBC. This showed that 90% of employees who left the CJRS furlough scheme between April and July were still on their original payroll in August, suggesting they remained working for their original employer. This analysis does not distinguish between employees who have chosen to leave their jobs and those who have been made redundant. answer text <p>HMRC are currently compiling, analysing and assuring the relevant settlement data.</p><p> </p><p>At the time of the independent review of the Loan Charge, about 12,000 employers and individuals still had the opportunity to keep clear of the Loan Charge by concluding settlement, having provided all the relevant information to HMRC by 5 April 2019. Early indications are that as at 2 October about 60% of these have either settled, informed HMRC that they had instead decided to report and pay the Loan Charge, or have been taken out of scope of the Loan Charge following the Government’s changes in response to the independent review.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC are continuing settlement discussions with a relatively small number of taxpayers who were prevented from meeting the 30 September deadline by circumstances beyond their control.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The temporary zero rate of VAT on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was an extraordinary measure to help affected sectors (such as hospitals and care homes) during the initial shock of the COVID-19 pandemic and when the global supply of PPE did not meet demand.</p><p> </p><p>This measure came to an end on 31 October (as legislated), as alternative measures introduced by the Government will ensure the supply of COVID-19 related PPE to affected sectors from November. This means the VAT relief is no longer required to ensure the supply of PPE is maintained and businesses that make VATable supplies can also recover any VAT they incur on the purchase of PPE as a business expense.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK Government's priority during the transition period is supporting traders and the border industry, including hauliers and logistics companies, to understand what actions they need to take to be ready for the end of the transition period.</p><p>The UK has a well-established customs intermediaries sector. The sector is varied and consists of a number of different business models, including specific customs agents, freight forwarders and fast parcel operators. Government support of up to £84 million has been designed to meet the needs of the sector to build capacity flexibly by covering training and IT, as well as recruitment.</p><p>For companies moving goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and importing goods into Northern Ireland from the Rest of the World, the Government has set up the Trader Support Service. answer text <p>After the Independent Review of the Loan Charge reported, HMRC wrote to taxpayers who had chosen to pause the settlement of their disguised remuneration scheme use asking if they wanted to reengage in the settlement process with HMRC.</p><p> </p><p>Those who have actively engaged with HMRC and kept to the timelines HMRC set will have received their final settlement offer in time to meet the 30 September deadline for settling and submitting their 2018-19 tax return.</p><p> </p><p>If taxpayers have exceptional reasons beyond their control that have prevented them from meeting the timeframes provided, they should make HMRC aware of this.
