In 2014 Innovate UK funded a study examining the feasibility of developing a pilot scale reactor for six molten salt reactor designs. In 2015 the Government commissioned the Techno-Economic Assessment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), to which a molten salt reactor developer contributed evidence. There are currently a number of molten salt reactor vendors participating in the UK SMR Competition and Government officials have met with them to discuss their proposals.
more like this

answer text
The economic impact of shale both locally and nationally will depend on how far shale development is technically and commercially viable, and on the level of production reached. A thriving shale industry could involve a wide range of local jobs, in construction supply, transport, facilities support and consultancy. Shale gas development would in turn support jobs in sectors such as the chemical industry, much of which relies on natural gas as a feedstock.

The Government believe it is important that communities which host shale development see a share of the economic benefits. To ensure that this happens, a community benefits package has been brought forward by industry. The Government has also announced that it will create a Shale Wealth Fund to ensure that communities which host shale sites can also share in the wider benefits of shale development.

more like this

Energy suppliers were required to roll out advanced meters to their larger non-domestic energy users by April 2014, ie electricity premises in profile classes 5-8, and gas premises with annual consumption of greater than 732 MWh. The current roll-out of smart meters will cover smaller non-domestic energy users, ie non-domestic electricity premises in profile classes 1-4, and non-domestic premises with annual gas consumption below 732 MWh per year.
more like this

answer text
The energy efficiency measures installed in homes since January 2013 as a result of Government initiatives were delivered via the Energy Company Obligation (ECO – including Affordable Warmth), Cashback, the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) and the Green Deal.

The provisional estimated lifetime carbon savings of measures installed through these schemes (excluding Affordable Warmth) to the end of September 2016, was between 28.5 - 30.0 MtCO2 with provisional estimated lifetime energy savings between 115,153-121,534 GWh.

The majority of these measures were delivered through the ECO scheme. Government sets the carbon savings thresholds which obligated ECO suppliers must meet over the lifetime of the scheme but it is up to suppliers to determine when, and how, they achieve these savings over the reporting period. This means that the numbers and types of measures installed from year to year can vary without reducing the overall carbon saved.
more like this

The NDA estate is part of the public sector, as classified by the Office of National Statistics, in that it receives over £2bn of funding from the UK taxpayer every year.

The Government recognises the unique context that Site Licence Companies and their workforces operate in. During the consultation period the NDA have continued to lead discussions with the Trade Unions on the best approach to pension reform; one that balances the legitimate concerns of taxpayers about the present and future costs of pension commitments, with the workforce’s concern to maintain levels of retirement income for people who have dedicated their working lives to the nuclear decommissioning industry.

more like this

answer text
The Government has noted the paper presented by National Energy Action on February 13th and will assess what the implications are for current policies. Government will consider this and other evidence provided by stakeholders as part of the design of any future fuel poverty schemes. In particular it will consider the views of the Committee on Fuel Poverty.

Government recently confirmed plans to reform the Energy Company Obligation, which is worth £640m per year. In 2017-18, 70% of the scheme will be directed at low income households. This represents an increase from £310m to £450m of funding per year.
