The transition will be supported by a package of demand, supply and infrastructure measures, and £1.5 billion in funding. This includes assisting consumers in meeting the cost of ultra low emission vehicles with a variety of plug-in grant funding schemes for eligible ultra low emission cars, vans, taxis and motorcycles.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s recent international Zero Emission Vehicle Summit emphasised its ambitions to lead this global transition, bringing other nations along through the ‘Birmingham Declaration’. At the Summit the Prime Minister announced £106 million in an R&amp;D funding package for innovators in ultra low emission vehicle technology, including in new battery and low carbon technologies.</p><p> </p><p>By supporting new ultra low emission vehicles, the Government is also helping to build the second hand market in the UK, which already offers a wide range of more affordable models. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/09/2018 answer text <p>The Government’s statutory Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, published in April 2017, set out £1.2 billion of funding available to be invested in measures to increase cycling and walking, including improving infrastructure in England, over the period to 2021.</p><p>Since the publication of the Strategy, the Department has identified additional infrastructure funding for cycling and walking schemes, including around £77 million of support for schemes via the National Productivity Investment Fund and over £7 million to support cycle safety improvements.</p><p>The Government has also announced a new £1.7 billion Transforming Cities Fund which will support a number of cities seeking improve local connectivity, including by boosting cycling and walking. The Department for Transport funds local road improvements by providing an annual integrated transport block grant to local authorities and by contributing about £7 billion towards the £12 billion Local Growth Fund, which Local Enterprise Partnerships can use to fund highway improvement schemes. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government are working with Sunderland City Council to develop its bid to the Housing Infrastructure Fund.
