answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>The Government routinely publishes total export figures from interconnectors in the annual Digest of UK Energy Statistics (DUKES), and the quarterly National Statistics Energy Trends data. The next Digest is due to be published on 27 July 2017, and provisional 2016 data will feature in the next Energy Trends report due for publication on 30 March.</p><p> </p><p>The latest available 12 month period of data spans Q4 2015 to Q3 2016 and shows a total export of 1,255GWh.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this

answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government stated in the 2016 Budget that it supports at least 9 gigawatts of additional interconnection, and noted that there is likely to be merit in more depending on the market being connected to. We have three projects under construction and three more with regulatory approval, which together could add 7.7 gigawatts of interconnection capacity by 2022. In addition to this, there are a number of new projects coming forward seeking regulatory approval. Ofgem is currently assessing whether these projects are in the interests of British consumers.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this

answer text <p>The Electricity Generation Costs report focuses on estimates of the levelised costs of electricity generation. These levelised costs cover the total capital and operating costs accruing to the owner/operator of a generation asset.</p><p>To improve the Department’s understanding of the impacts of individual electricity generation technologies, Frontier Economics were commissioned to develop a comprehensive framework to define whole system impacts and their components and drivers, which can be applied to a range of electricity generation technologies. The resulting methodology report and its peer reviews will be published in due course.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government and Ofgem recently published a Call for Evidence on how to manage the transition to a smart energy system. This included a proposed approach to addressing policy and regulatory barriers to energy storage so that it can compete on a level playing field with other providers of flexibility. We will publish a Smart Systems Plan in spring 2017 setting out specific measures to be taken forward.</p><p>Since 2012, more than £80m of public sector controlled support has been invested in energy storage research, development and demonstration activities. This has helped to fund various storage technology demonstrators, including battery systems of different types and sizes. The 2016 Budget announcement committed at least £50 million to help innovation in energy storage, demand-side response and other smart technologies over the next five years.</p> more like this
