answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/12/2016 answer text <p>Interconnectors, as with all electricity infrastructure, may occasionally be unavailable because of the need for repairs and maintenance. However, electricity supplies are secure this winter. In forecasting capacity margins, National Grid allows for unplanned outages – such as this one – in their planning. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/12/2016 answer text <p>National Grid and the French transmission system operator are jointly conducting a full investigation into the incident that damaged the interconnector between France and the UK during Storm Angus. Teams on both sides of the Channel are working to restore this interconnector to full availability as soon as possible.</p><p>Interconnector developers employ a variety of tools to reduce the risk of damage to the cable, including thorough sea-bed risk assessments, geotechnical analysis of the sea-bed and a review of shipping routes near the project. Where physically possible, reinforced cables are buried under the sea-bed; where the conditions do not allow for this, the cable is protected by other means, such as rock placement or concrete. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/12/2016 answer text <p>The Capacity Market enables us to buy energy in advance and is designed to ensure that families and businesses have access to secure, affordable energy supplies they can rely on.</p><p>As the Capacity Mechanism is a series of auctions, prices are subject to strong competition and the costs depend on the auctions’ clearing prices. The two principal auctions held so far have secured capacity needed for 2018/19, and for 2019/20, at costs in those years of around £980m and £830m respectively (2015 values). This equates to gross household bill impacts of around £10 per year, but this figure will be significantly offset when reduced wholesale price spikes are taken into account. This included support for innovation in the marine sector, including research on tidal power, primarily through the Glasgow-based Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Supergen Centre for Marine Energy Research and the Marine Energy Array Demonstrator scheme.</p><p> </p><p>From 2016-2021, the Government has committed to increase the UK’s energy innovation spend, such that by 2021 it will have doubled to over £400m per year. This funding will support innovation across the energy sector in regions across the UK. Round four of Innovate UK’s Energy Catalyst programme has attracted proposals from tidal energy developers and details of other funding opportunities will be set out in due course.
