answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/09/2022 answer text <p>The report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights provides new evidence of the appalling extent of China's efforts to silence and repress Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang. It includes harrowing evidence, including first-hand accounts from victims, that shames China in the eyes of the international community.</p><p>The UK has already led international efforts to pressure China to change its behaviour. We have imposed sanctions, led joint statements at the UN, taken action to tackle forced labour in supply chains, funded research to expose China's actions, and consistently raised our concerns at the highest levels in Beijing.</p><p>Following the report's publication, we have raised our deep concerns about its findings with the Chinese Embassy in London as well as senior officials in Beijing. We led a strong international response to the coup, including through the G7 and UN Security Council (UNSC). On 27 July, we secured a UNSC statement condemning the military's execution of pro-democracy activists. We are working continuously to amplify the voices of the National Unity Consultative Council, the National Unity Government (NUG) and other pro-democracy voices, including at the UNSC. To underline this, the then Minister for Asia, Amanda Milling met Dr Zaw Wai Soe, the NUG's Minister for Health and Education, in May and reiterated the UK's support for a return to democracy. The UK remains a significant donor in Myanmar and our development programme is supporting diverse civil society and pro-democracy voices, including women's rights organisations, LGBT+ groups and youth. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/09/2021 answer text <p>The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was designed as a temporary, economy-wide measure to support businesses while widespread restrictions were in place. Closing the scheme at the end of September is designed to strike the right balance between supporting the economy as it opens up, continuing to provide support and protect incomes, and ensuring that incentives are in place to get people back to work as demand returns.  This approach has worked; the OBR have estimated that without the short-term fiscal easing announced in the Budget, and in particular the CJRS extension, unemployment would have been about 300,000 higher in the fourth quarter of this year than the 2.2 million in the central forecast.</p><p> </p><p>The Government recognises the particular challenges that the travel industry has faced as a result of COVID-19. In England travel agents have recently benefited from Restart Grants worth up to £6,000, and can continue to benefit from the £2 billion of discretionary grant funding that has been made available to local authorities in England through the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG). Furthermore, the travel sector is being supported with over £12 billion that has been made available through loan guarantees and support for exporters. In addition, airports continue to benefit from the renewed Airport and Ground Operations Support Scheme announced at Budget.</p><p> </p><p>The Global Travel Taskforce (GTT) report sets out a clear framework for the Government’s objective of establishing a safe and sustainable return to international travel, which is key to enabling the sector’s recovery. It has been created following extensive engagement with the international travel and tourism industries, and changes following the recent checkpoint review of the GTT are a vital step in enabling the recovery of travel operators and those whose jobs rely on the travel industry.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has shown throughout the pandemic that it is prepared to adapt support if the path of the virus changes. However, data is available for the number of employments furloughed with the support of the CJRS (a person may have multiple employments).</p><p> </p><p>HM Revenue and Customs publish statistics on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme regularly. The latest statistics were published on 9 September 2021 and can be found on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p>Figures from these statistics, the latest available, show that on 31 July 2021, 3,900 jobs were on furlough in York Unitary Authority while 2,200 jobs were on furlough in York Central Parliamentary Constituency.
