Since the first ever statutory Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS1) in 2017, the Government has made a great deal of progress. It is not possible to provide separate totals for investment in walking schemes and investment in cycling schemes. The figures do not include the funding for active travel that comes from wider funding streams such as the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS). This includes at least £100 million of dedicated capital funding over the two-year period 2023/24 to 2024/25 for active travel infrastructure. In addition to this, the Department will confirm the revenue funding for active travel for 2023/24 and 2024/25 shortly. As outlined in the second Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS2) there are a wide range of cross-Government funding streams supporting the delivery of active travel infrastructure. The table in question incorrectly included £225 million of expenditure under the heading “projected investment from April 2021 to March 2025” when this funding had in fact already been accounted for in the period April 2016 to March 2021 in Table One of the second Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy Report to Parliament published in July 2022.
